Releasing your Hope as an Anchor
Heb. 6:18-19 (KJV), “That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;”
Have you ever seen the anchor of a ship? Do you know its purpose and how it works? The New World Encyclopedia defines an anchor as an object that is used to attach a ship or boat to a specific point at the bottom of a body of water. It prevents the ship from drifting away by the action of winds and waves. An anchor may either be permanent or temporal.
Have you ever been in a situation where the possibility of making a drastic move away from your original choice and value is apparent? You know the right thing to do, but due to how dire the situation at hand is, compromise looks appealing. You are not trying to ignore the situation. You want it to change by all means. You want to come out and be free at once.
This reminds me of the children of Israel who told their leader, Moses to take them to Egypt because of hunger and thirst they experienced in the wilderness. Going back to Egypt was easy but going forward was what they ought to do. At that point in life, releasing your hope to lay hold on God’s promises concerning that situation will keep you afloat.
Hope is an eternal virtue. When enforced, it has a permanent staying power to keep you safe, sure and steadfast against the winds and waves of life that seek to beat you down. I love what God does when He commissions or sets people on a journey. He starts with giving them a promise(s), such as be not afraid of their faces; I will be with you; I will strengthen and help you; I am your God, etc. so that when you meet challenges, instead of your heart to see them, you are seeing and holding unto God’s word.
Our God is big; He will not suffer your feet to be moved. Whatsoever, you are going through is temporal. Let your hope be released as an anchor based on the word of God you have received and laid hold on. It will keep you safe until you get to your glorious harbor because you have gone too far to go back.
